Birkirkara to face rivals Valletta
by Ayrton Galea - 16th March 2012Birkirkara will be involved in a very difficult task this Saturday afternoon when they face eternal rivals and current league leaders, Valletta.
Birkirkara are going through a very positive run as they managed to win four out of the last five, with the only defeat being conceded against the same Valletta. In the last three matches, Birkirkara registered three wins in a row, interestingly enough all with a 3-1 score. These wins were acheived against Tarxien Rainbows, Hamrun Spartans and Floriana respectively.
On the other hand, Valletta's morale is sky high after they bounced back from a 1-1 draw against neighbours Floriana, with a very comfortable 7-2 over Balzan. In the last three matches, Valletta won two out of three as they beat Balzan Youths with a 2-0 score, were held in a 1-1 draw by Floriana and, as said earlier, they opened the Championship Pool phase with a comfortable 7-2 win.
Matches against Valletta were never an easy task this season for Birkirkara. They met three times, once in the Euro Challenge Cup and twice in the Premier League. Birkirkara and Valletta shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in the Euro Challenge Cup but then ‘The Citizens' won both Premier League clashes with a 2-1 and 4-1 scores respectively.
Birkirkara are currently third with 21 points, ten points under leaders Valletta. A win for ‘The Stripes' will see them extending their positive run, while strengthening their bid for a place with the first three in the standings.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and it will kick off at 16:00. Transport from Valley Road will leave at 15:00.
Matches against Valletta always attract a large number of supporters to the stadium, and this match is no different. Our appeal is to come and give your support to our players, because as they often say themselves, you are the 12th player on the pitch.
Come on the Stripes!
