Birkirkara and Sliema in a clash for the fourth place
by Ayrton Galea - 7th January 2012Birkirkara will be aiming to start 2012 on a positive note and consolidate the fourth place when on Sunday afternoon, they face Sliema Wanderers.
Three weeks ago, in their last Premier League match, Birkirkara brought to an end their negative run of three consecutive matches without a win, when thanks to a penalty converted by Terence Vella, they defeated Mqabba with a 1-0 score.
On the other hand, Sliema Wanderers were unbeaten in their last seven matches. However, they only managed to win two matches. Their last defeat was against Mosta on the 21 October with a 3-2 score. In the last Premier League match, Sliema W. struggled more then expected to beat Marsaxlokk with a 2-0 score.
Both teams made it to the fourth round of the U*BET FA Trophy two weeks ago. 'The Stripes' advanced with style as they eliminated Vittoriosa with a 4-0 score and Sliema Wanderers made it through in a match packed with emotions and goals when they won with a 4-2 score after they were leading the match with a 2-0 score.
Birkirkara have to face Sliema with a depleted squad. On Friday, Shola Shodiya suffered a hamstring injury during training. Andrew Decesare,Ryan Camenzuli and Karl Magri are also unavailable for Mr. Paul Zammit as Andrew is injured and suspended while Ryan and Karl are was ill.
The only acquisition by Birkirkara so far, Goalkeeper Reuben Gauci is expected to make his debut with our Club. Rodrigo Pereira, who is back with Birkirkara F.C. is also available for Mr. Paul Zammit.
The match will be played at the Hibernians Stadium and is scheduled to kick-off at 16:00. Transport from Valley Road leaves at 15:00.
In the first round, Sliema Wanderers emerged as winners with a 1-0 score.
