Shola Shodiya: I'm very happy with Birkirkara F.C.
by Ayrton Galea - 17th December 2011This week we will introduce yet another player that joined our Club last summer, after a lot of speculation and some controversy, Shola Shodiya.
Tell us about your typical day.
After I wake up, I usually go out somewhere. Then I go back home playing on my PlayStation as a form of relaxation, and then I go for the training session. Then, sometimes, I go to Bugibba to see my friend.
Which is your favourite team abroad?
F.C. Barcelona.
Who were your football heroes when you were growing up? And who are your football heroes now?
When I was young I liked a lot Andrei Iniesta and Xavi of Barcelona. These days, without a doubt, it is Lionel Messi.
Who is your favourite striker?
Louis Saha of Everton.
Considering the fact that if you do not score a goal, you do not win; do you believe that the role of the striker is the most important?
Of course.
Can you tell us something about your experiences with other clubs?
After I was playing with Gateway United FC, in the 2010-2011 I moved to Eyimba FC where I believe I had a positive and good experience.
Which was your favourite or most memorable match with a previous club?
Gateway United FC vs. Eyimba FC in the 2009-2010 season when I was playing for Gateway United.
What is your impression of Malta? Had you ever been here before? Did you ever imagine you would be playing here?
I had never been here before. I like it because it is my first time in Europe. And, no I never imagined to be playing here.
Do you think that you have settled down with our team or do you still feel the need for improvement when it comes to communication and performance?
I think I need to improve in my performances and especially in communication with my team mates.
In which match do you think you performed best?
I think against Sliema because I played well and against Mosta where I was unlucky not to score two goals.
So far you failed to score a goal with our Club. Does this worry you?
Yes of course, it does, and a lot! However, I think I'm playing well but so far I have been unlucky.
With our Club, we saw you playing in several positions such as a winger or a striker. Which one do you prefer?
Central striker.
After the first months with our Club, how do you describe your adventure so far?
I would say I'm happy. I'm very happy with Birkirkara F.C.
Who is your favourite team mate?>
I think I'm the closest with Paul Fenech, Rowen Muscat and Gareth Sciberras, but if I had to choose one, I would choose Gareth.
What are your comments about the previous match? We returned to winning ways following three disappointing results. How important was this win?
I think we played well. We were under pressure and it was really important to win. In the end it was a deserved win.
What are your comments about our next match? How should we face it and how is the squad preparing?
I don't know a lot about the team we are playing against, but it doesn't matter, we should win.
What are your targets with our Club?
I think winning the league this year would be difficult but we need to make a big effort to win the U*BET FA Trophy.
What are your future plans?
My plan for the future is that after my adventure with Birkirkara FC, I would go play in Denmark.
What are the most important things in your life?
My family is the most important thing for me.
How important are the supporters? Do you have a message for them?
They are very important, and we need to give them results. Yes I have a message for the supporters: I promise them that I'm going to do my best to score!
