I'm dissapointed like everyone else - Dragan Perisic

This week we decided to introduce to you another player, so we interviewed the defender that joined our Club in the middle of October, Dragan Perisic.

What are your main hobbies?

My favorite hobby is fishing with my friends. It is a form of relaxation and we are passionate about it.

What is your impression of Malta? Had you ever been here before? Did you ever imagine you would be playing here?

It is a beautiful island with beautiful buildings and a rich history. People are very friendly here. What is striking is the that the Maltese communicate, because Maltese is very vocal and some times I think that people are quarrelling but they would just be talking normally between themselves.

Can you tell us something about your previous experiences?

I have played in a number of countries, and in each country and with every club I have different playing experiences. After playing for a few clubs in Serbia, I got the opportunity to join FC Jablonec in the Czech Republic where I spent one season and felt that I made progress. In the next season I went to Romania with F.C. Panduri where I also spent one season and where I managed to earn my place in the squas, and consequently moved to FC Metalurg in Ukraine, where I spent three seasons. After that I spent one season in Azerbaijan.

Which was your favourite or most memorable match with other clubs?

I remember best the match against Panathinaikos. It was the final round before the Euro group stage. After a 1-1 draw in Athens, we lost 1-0 at home and it was probably the best quality game by the whole team. It will remain a memorable moment when the referee signalled the end of the match and we were met with applause and positive vibes. After that, we had stayed for long time in the locker room just taking it all in.

Considering the fact that if you do not concede a goal, you do not lose, do you believe that the role of the defender is the most important?

A common factor in sports is the fact that each position in the team is important and that everyone has the responsibility for what he does on the field. Every player has a different role and the point is that each of us does what he does best.

If you had to change your playing position, which position would you choose? Why?

When I was younger I liked the position of a defensive midfielder because a player from that position is actively present in the attacking and defensive phase.

In your opinion, what are the differences between football here and in Ukraine, the country were you spent most of your recent playing career?

It is difficult to make such comparisons because football in each country is a different experience. Ukraine is a much larger country with lot of more football stadiums where they perceived as a brand while here appear to be that any club in Malta is the trademarks of their city.

Why did you decide to join Birkirkara F.C.?

The agent told me that this club's ambitions are to win the championship and play in the European scene.

You have been registered with our Club for the last month. Do you think that you have settled down with our team or do you still feel the need for improvement when it comes to communication and performance?

I believe that communication is very important for quality, results and progress of the team. Every team member should be open to receive positive or negative criticism, for the interest of the team.

How do you describe your adventure with our Club so far?

Very interesting. It's nice to see something new, and Malta has a rich history, with lots to see, which is quite different from other islands.

Who is your favourite team mate?

I can tell that since the moment I joined this club the team mates helped me a lot and it is much easier now. I spend a lot of the time with Alexandar Canovic for the simple reason that we are from the same country but I also have to mention that I have great relationship with all the other players. I often see Jorge Mora, Rodrigo Pereira and Moises Avila Perez after training, but all of the local players like Gareth, Paul and Joseph give me suggestions about football and also about places to visit in Malta.

What are your comments about the previous match?

I can only say that I'm disappointed with the result like everyone else. I think we deserved to win although we didn't play as good we could.

Can you tell us about your physical condition, since you were replaced in the late moments of the first half?

I have a strained muscle but I don't know the current state of recovery, before I consult with the club's doctor.

What are your comments about our next match? How should we face it and how is the squad preparing?

Focus in every match is important. Our next opponent will not allow us space. In the moment they are slight favourites because of their better position in the league table. Our coach knows very well all the teams in Malta. The players will have to be the ones to carry out his plans on the ground.

What are your targets with our Club?

To finish in a position which allows access to the European scene and fight until the end to win one of the trophies in the domestic league.

What are your future plans?

I do not like to plan much in advance. I'm here and would like to fulfil the expectations and goals.

What are the most important things in your life?

My health, my family and please who are close to me.

How important are the supporters? Do you have a message for them?

They are an integral part of the team and their opinions are important. I know that at this point they are not happy but we will do our best for them. For the next game be back with a smile on, and we will seek a string of victories.
