Birkirkara take on Floriana in Semi Final
by Ayrton Galea - 14th May 2011On Sunday afternoon Birkirkara will be involved in one of the most important matches this season, the Semi Final of the U*BET FA Trophy, and they will be facing Floriana.
To advance to the Semi Final Birkirkara had to play one match as they were awarded a bye till the Quarter Final. In the Quarter Final they faced Sliema Wanderers and in a match packed with emotions and goals, Birkirkara eliminated Sliema Wanderers. The score was 3-3 after the extra-time. The penalty shoot out had to decide the winner, for a final score of 6-4.
On the other hand, Floriana entered the competition in the first round and they beat Lija Athletics 3-0. Then they eliminated Mosta in the second round with a solitary goal in the extra time period. In the Quarter Final they eliminated Qormi with a penalty shoot-out (5-3) after the match had ended 1-1 in the extra time.
In four times they met this season in the Premier League, Birkirkara won the second round match with a solitary goal by Patrick Borg. Floriana won the remaining three games as they registered 2-0, 5-1 and 3-0 wins over Birkirkara. This confirms that it will not be an easy task for 'The Stripes' and no one is expecting an easy game.
Since season 2001-2002, Birkirkara only met Floriana once in this competition. In season 2002-2003 these two teams met in the Semi Final and Birkirkara eliminated 'The Greens' with a comfortable 4-1 score.
Birkirkara should be in full strength for this match, for the first time this season.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and it will start at 17:00. For this match, Birkirkara Ultras are organising a Double Decker which will leave from Valley Road at 15:30.
Come on the Stripes!
