Thanks to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Hibernians, today Birkirkara have clinched the first edition of the Gozo Cup, which is also the first victory that our squad has registered against the Paolites since the 11th of May, 2007.

With a dominant display of possession and flowing football, the 'Stripes' never gave Hibernians any real hope of winning this match, in fact the 2-0 score line is somewhat unfair on our team, who could have gone back home with a better goal margin.

In the first half, Birkirkara had a number of good opportunities to open the score, most notably through Comvalius, who had a couple of good opportunities which went begging.

Just before the half-time whistle, Gozitan player Shaun Bajada who was playing his first game with Birkirkara FC in his native island, had a direct free kick from outside the penalty area which hit the crossbar before bouncing away from the goal line.

In the second half, Birkirkara came out of the dugout determined to turn their possession into goals, and so they did, as just two minutes from the restart, Karl Pulo found space in the opposing box, and slotted the ball past Mario Muscat's right.

The second goal of the match arrived ten minutes from time, as Paul Fenech managed to slam the ball into the top right corner of Muscat's goal, a goal which realistically made the Birkirkara supporters think that their team is on the way to clinching this particular title.

The full-time whistle found the brave Birkirkara Ultras and supporters applauding their players for their positive display, which was honored moments later, with the cup's presentation.

Well Done Yellows!
