31/12/1969 -

In cold weather conditions, Birkirkara managed to come back from a goal down, to edge Msida by the odd goal, in a tight encounter played at the Hibernians Ground in Corradino.

Our team couldn't have started the match on a weaker note, as a series of unfruitful passes started to annoy the 'Stripes' faithful, and in fact after twenty minutes, our defence was punished by the great run and finish of Kalenga, who slotted the ball home in a one-on-one situation.

This goal seemed to spark our team back to life, as the style of play now started to improve, and despite having some good goal scoring opportunities prior to the half-time break, the score remained the same till the referee's triple whistle.

As play resumed, Msida had a good chance of doubling the lead, however, youngster Rowen Muscat arrived just in time to clear away the danger.

Two minutes later, Paul Fenech found Michael Galea from way outside the penalty box, and with a thunderous strike, Birkirkara's best ever top scorer, equalized in front of his own fans.

With the fans still in delirium, Karl Pulo found space in the opponents' penalty box, than used his skill to twist and turn before cooly slotting the ball home again in the space of just two minutes, all of a sudden Birkirkara were ahead!

Birkirkara had a number of other goal scoring chances, however, none of which were materialized.

Msida St. Joseph seemed unable to reply, until right at the death, a defensive blunder lead to an open goal scoring opportunity for Kalenga, who somehow failed to connect with a ball which just needed the slightest of touches for it to go into the empty net.

With this win, Birkirkara are now back in second place, with the squad now focused on the highly-important encounter against Qormi, which will decide who keeps total control of this second spot.
