In what unfortunately has to be considered the worst performance this season, Birkirkara have succumbed to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Sliema W.

At first glance, the result gives the impression that the game was a tight one, but in fact Sliema W. Dominated from start to finish, and missed loads of chances in a game which saw the return of a considerable amount of Birkirkara FC faithful to support their players.

On the 15 minute mark, Clayton Failla, curled in a shot which hit Mora's upright, and minutes alter it was the Spanish goalkeeper who performed a good save on Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza.

Seven minutes from the end of the first period, it was the ex-Birkirkara FC player himself, who put Sliema W. In the lead, as the 'Stripes' defence failed to clear the ball, which unluckily fell in Triganza's feet again, as he now had the easiest of chances to put the ball in the net.

A highly-controversial referee brought the first 45 minutes to a close.

As soon as the second period resumed, it was Triganza again, whose dangerous shot clipped the foot of the post before going wide. Birkirkara seemed to have absolutely no reply to Sliema W.'s continuous pressure.

Things could have gone worse, if the same striker managed to pounce on a 1 vs. 1 opportunity, however Mora did just enough to deflect the ball wide again.

Birkirkara's first and only scoring opportunity came soon after, as a cross by Sylvano Comvalius created havoc in the Sliema W. Defence, with the ball arriving at the feet of Trevor Cilia on the other side of the penalty box, who crossed the ball in the box again, yet no one was there to apply the much needed finishing touch.

The referee's full-time whistle was again met by huge disapproval by the Birkirkara fans, who clearly felt that the performance by the man in charge, wasn't up to the required standards.

With this defeat, Birkirkara have lost a golden opportunity to take sole leadership of the BOV Premier League, and will now have to ensure that these type of performances never take place again.
